This afternoon (August 29, 2024) around 3:50 p.m. a vehicle accident occurred on Lakeland Highlands Road near the Polk County Parkway.
We reached out to the on-call Polk County Fire Rescue Public Information Officer (PIO) and it was confirmed that three patients were transported, with one being a trauma alert.
Lakeland Police Department also responded to the crash. It was believed to be two vehicles involved in the crash – a small white car and a gray SUV. The PIO for Lakeland Police advised that as of 4:45 p.m., one of the lanes in the northbound direction is closed on Lakeland Highlands Road, but the other is open. Though the road is not fully shut down, please drive with caution and avoid the area if possible until the scene is clear.
