On January 5, 2025, at 3:44 p.m., Lakeland Police Department officers responded to a report of a 6-year-old boy who sustained a gunshot wound to the head. The incident occurred in a vehicle at a residence in the 200 block of Crawford Street. Prior to officers’ arrival the Victim was transported to Lakeland Regional Health via personal vehicle.
Detectives responded to investigate the circumstances and preliminarily it appears the child was injured as a result of an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot from a firearm which he was able to access inside the vehicle. The Victim remains in critical condition at this time. Lakeland PD Ofc. Stephanie Kerr, Public Information Officer said no charges have been determined yet, however, the case remains open and active.
