Inwood Consulting Engineers Approved to Provide Professional Engineering Services for Daughtery Road Park Phase I

by James Coulter

Lakeland is one step closer to enjoying a new park for sports and recreation now that the county has approved an agreement for professional engineering services from a consulting firm.

At their meeting on Tues. Mar. 18, the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) of Polk County voted unanimously to approve an agreement with Inwood Consulting Engineers, Inc. to provide professional engineering services for Daughtery Road Park Phase I development.

The development will be for a 30-acre property located along Daughtery Road, which was purchased by the county in 2007, according to the agenda memo, “to provide additional recreational facilities and to relieve the high demand for field use at nearby Hunt Fountain Park.”

Phase I of the development will be for the northeast portion of the property, which will include the construction of three multi-purpose fields, concession and restroom facilities, and other related infrastructure required “to provide fully functional athletic facilities.”

Per the agreement, Inwood Consulting Engineers, Inc. will be paid $736,759.10 to provide design, permitting, testing, survey, and construction administration services for Phase I development.

Commissioner Michael Scott inquired if there was a school inbetween the two parks; and if so, if there was a sidewalk connecting the two properties.

“It will be a logical thing on Saturdays,” he said. “There’s going to be a lot of kids on bikes going back and forth.”

County Manager William Beasley, in response to the commissioner’s comment, recommended that a sidewalk extension be proposed to the sidewalk advisory committee at their next meeting.
