Robbery Suspect Apprehended by Police K9<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Lake Wales Police Department has been investigating a string of 3 armed<\/div>\n
robberies that have occurred since April 15, 2016. The robberies occurred\u00a0at Pizzano\u2019s\u00a0Pizza located at 1326 SR60 E, CVS located at 500 S 11\u00a0th\u00a0St, and a Racetrac convenience\u00a0store located at 1740 SR60 E. In each of these robberies an armed black male robber\u00a0wearing a red hoodie pulled tightly around his face entered the stores,\u00a0demanded\u00a0money, and fled the stores eluding arrest.<\/div>\n

On April 21, 2016 at 3:09am Sgt. Shawn Smith saw a subject\u00a0wearing a gray hoodie\u00a0pulled tightly around their face, sunglasses, and dark pants sneaking\u00a0up the side of the\u00a0building and then across the front of the Racetrac convenience store located\u00a0at 1740\u00a0SR60 E. Sgt. Smith radioed the information to other units in the area\u00a0and all responded\u00a0quickly. As the suspect was walking toward the entrance doors to the Racetrac he\u00a0turned and fled without entering the store. As Lake Wales Police Officers\u00a0and Polk\u00a0County Sheriff\u2019s Deputies arrived on scene a perimeter was set up around the area the\u00a0suspect fled into. With a good perimeter established Officer Dale Hampton and partner\u00a0K9 Badge began tracking the suspect with the support of the Polk County\u00a0Sheriff\u2019s\u00a0Office Air Unit. The track went southwest from the business to the 1100 block of E\u00a0Grove Avenue which is a residential area. As the K9 team was tracking the<\/div>\n
air unit\u00a0spotted the suspect and directed the officers to the suspect who was now\u00a0trying to\u00a0jump fences in the back yards. The suspect continued to flee from officers but was not\u00a0able to get over a privacy fence before being apprehended by K9 Badge\u00a0in the backyard\u00a0of 1101 E Grove Ave. K9 Badge held the suspect until officers were able\u00a0to place him\u00a0under arrest. When Shuler was arrested he was no longer wearing the hoodie,\u00a0glasses,\u00a0or full length pants. He was wearing a black undershirt, black shorts, and tennis shoes.<\/div>\n

The suspect, who was identified as Trevontae Jermaine Shuler of 1536 Judy St, was\u00a0transported to the Lake Wales Medical Center for treatment. Officers began searching\u00a0the area Shuler had fled in an attempt to locate the clothing he was\u00a0wearing when he\u00a0was seen at the store. After an extensive search officer located the gray hoodie and\u00a0sunglasses in a porch located at 1181 E Grove Ave, black rubber gloves\u00a0in a garbage\u00a0can located at 1165 E Grove Ave, and the full length dark pants and\u00a0a 9mm handgun in\u00a0a shed located at 1157 E Grove Ave.\u00a0During an interview with detectives Shuler confessed to his plan<\/div>\n
to rob the Racetrac\u00a0this morning; to hiding the clothing and firearm at the locations it was found, to\u00a0committing the other 3 robberies we were investigating, and to stealing the firearm\u00a0from a friend of his.<\/div>\n

Shuler is no stranger to criminal activity. His arrest record includes armed burglary,\u00a0grand theft of a firearm, dealing in stolen property, violation of probation, and\u00a0resisting\u00a0arrest. As a result of Shuler\u2019s recent crime spree Detective Alvin Maultsby will be\u00a0booking Shuler into the Polk County Jail on the following charges: 3 counts\u00a0of armed\u00a0robbery, 1 count of attempted armed robbery, 1 count of possession of a firearm\u00a0by a\u00a0convicted felon, 1 count of grand theft of a firearm, 1 count of armed burglary, 1 count<\/div>\n
of\u00a0resisting arrest, and other charges may follow.<\/div>\n

\u201cWe are thankful nobody was hurt during any of the robberies and that we were<\/div>\n
able to arrest the suspect quickly.\u201d<\/div>\n
