Winter Haven, FL – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious traffic crash that occurred shortly after 1:10 p.m. today at the intersection of Cypress Gardens Blvd SE and 8th Street SE in Winter Haven.
Multiple vehicles were involved in the collision, which left at least one vehicle overturned in the roadway. Polk County Fire Rescue and Winter Haven Fire Rescue both responded to the scene, along with deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Several injuries were reported, and eastbound lanes of Cypress Gardens Blvd were temporarily blocked while emergency crews worked the scene.
Photos from the scene show heavy damage to several vehicles. In one overturned vehicle, what appears to be a bottle of Patron tequila could be seen inside. Witnesses also reported that one individual was taken into custody or at least detained at the scene, though details about the arrest have not yet been released.
Traffic in the area was heavily impacted during the response, with motorists urged to avoid the area.
