One local woman loved her local library so much that her last wish was to have $258,000 donated to the establishment.
At their regular meeting on Mon. Dec. 8, Winter Haven city commissioners voted unanimously to approve an ordinance appropriating funds for the Winter Haven Public Library in next fiscal year’s budget.
The City of Winter Haven received $258,879.07 for the local library fund. This donation was received from the Estate of Velma Seawell, a long-time resident and supporter of the local library.
“Mrs. Daniels’ generous gift reflects her lifelong commitment to literacy and the advancement of public library services in the community,” wrote C.J. Scott, Chief Financial Officer.
This generous donation will increase the budget for the City of Winter Haven Library by $258,879.07. As such, the City was required to approve the ordinance amending the budget and recognizing the contribution.
