LAKELAND, Fla. — More than 140 registered youth athletes, plus dozens of additional day-of participants, filled Peterson Park on February 7 for the annual Evan Michael Chambers Baseball & Softball Camp, creating an unforgettable day centered on growth, mentorship, and love for the game.

Hosted by R2Cares in partnership with the Evan Michael Chambers L.O.V.E. Foundation, the camp welcomed boys and girls ages 5–12 for a high-energy experience designed to develop not only athletic skills but confidence, leadership, and mental resilience.

From the opening drills to the final rotations, the turnout reflected strong community support and a shared commitment to investing in the next generation.

A Powerful Mentorship Chain

One of the most impactful elements of the day was the layered mentorship model that brought together athletes from every level of the sport.

Professional players mentored collegiate athletes.
Collegiate athletes mentored high school players.
High school players mentored and trained the youth participants.

At every level, leaders stepped up to guide, teach, and encourage. The structure created a visible pipeline of development, showing young athletes what’s possible while reinforcing the responsibility of giving back.

Organizers emphasized that the camp was about more than mechanics and fundamentals. Mental health and mindset were intentionally woven into the experience. Coaches and mentors reinforced the importance of self-awareness, discipline, teamwork, and enjoying the game.

The result was a day where competition met compassion and performance met purpose.

Fun First, Always

Smiles were everywhere.

Young baseball and softball players rotated through drills, skill stations, and hands-on instruction, learning directly from athletes who have competed at high school, collegiate, and professional levels. The energy on the field reflected what organizers hoped to create: a safe, uplifting environment where kids could improve their skills while having fun.

Parents looked on as their children gained confidence with each rep, each throw, and each swing.

The mission of the Evan Michael Chambers L.O.V.E. Foundation, rooted in faith, family, community, and personal growth, was evident throughout the event. R2Cares’ commitment to strengthening minds and empowering communities also shined through the intentional focus on mentorship and mental wellness.

A Community Investment

Local sponsors and vendors helped make the day possible, reinforcing how community partnerships can create meaningful experiences for families.

With more than 140 registered participants and additional athletes joining the day of the event, this year’s camp marked one of the strongest turnouts yet, a clear sign that families value programs that blend athletics with character development.

As the final drills wrapped and families gathered to close out the day, one thing was clear:

The future of baseball and softball in this community is bright. It is being built on mentorship, mindset, and a genuine love for the game. ⚾💙
