Major Cody Khork

Major Cody A. Khork, 35, a devoted Military Police Officer, passed away after a life defined by service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to his country. He served with honor in the United States Army and was widely respected for his character, commitment to duty, and the positive spirit he brought to those around him.

Major Khork began his military journey in the Army Reserve and further developed his leadership through the ROTC program at Florida Southern College, where he also participated in an Africa Cultural Understanding Leadership Program. His passion for history and service reflected his deep appreciation for the principles and sacrifices that shape the United States.

During his military career, Major Khork served in multiple international deployments, including Cuba (2020), South Korea (2022), Poland (2024), and Kuwait (2025). He also participated in training missions in Saudi Arabia and Mongolia, contributing to international cooperation and military readiness.

His service was recognized with numerous military honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, multiple Army Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NATO Medal, and others. He is also being recognized posthumously with the Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge, reflecting his courage and sacrifice.

Major Khork will be remembered for his leadership, patriotism, and the deep care he showed for his fellow soldiers, friends, and family. His legacy of service and dedication will endure in the many lives he touched, and in the example, he set for those who continue to serve.

He is survived by his mother, Donna Burhans; his father and stepmother, James and Stacey Khork; his brothers, Austin (Krystal) Khork and Dusty Khork; his fiancée, Meghan Huntoon; and his grandparents, Helen Burhans, Patricia Khork and Frances & Bob Adams; aunts Bonnie New, Robin Barone, Roberta Case and Lori Walker; uncles Garry Walker, Rob Khork, Phil Oglesby and Conrad Case; his cousins include JC and Skye Carpenter, Justin & Ali Kay, and Cameron & Hope Kay.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Connie Burhans, Robert Khork, and Wyolene and Richard Hall; his uncles, Chris Burhans and Jewell New; his aunt, Carolyn Kay.

Major Cody A. Khork’s life was one of purpose, courage, and devotion. His memory will forever be cherished by those who loved him and by the nation he proudly served.

A visitation will be held at Haven Worship Center (1835 Overlook Dr, Winter Haven, FL 33884) on March 21 at 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at noon.

Interment will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on March 23 at 2:00 pm.
