$5 Million Agreement Advances Thompson Nursery Road Expansion in Winter Haven

A proposed four-lane urban collector roadway is closer to being constructed in Winter Haven now that county commissioners have approved an agreement for construction, engineering, and inspection services.
At their regular meeting on Tues. Dec. 16, the Polk County Board of County Commissioners (Bocc) voted unanimously to approve a $5 million agreement for the construction of Thompson Nursery Road in Winter Haven.
The agreement was awarded to Eisman & Russo, Inc. for $5,010,675, which will be used to cover expenses for the first segment of phase I of construction.
Located south of Winter Haven, the Thompson Nursery Road extension is a proposed four-lane urban collector roadway. The corridors of the proposed projects are approximately ten miles between the intersection of US Highway 17 and State Road 540 to the intersection of US Highway 27.
“Polk County has identified the construction of TNR as a priority given the population and employment growth projected for the region surrounding TNR,” wrote Ken Brush, Procurement Contracts Manager.
“This expected growth is evident in the increased traffic demands on nearby roadways, and future development projects planned along the corridor,” he continued.
Construction is expected to begin in March 2026 and conclude in February 2028.
