When uninvited guests are not handled properly, this can happen. This fire started in a Polk County garbage truck after charcoal briquettes ignited mid-route. The driver had to dump the load on the street to avoid a bigger disaster.
Some items can’t just go in the trash no matter how small or harmless they seem.
- Lithium-ion batteries and pool chemicals should never be placed in household garbage.
- Fireworks and charcoal briquettes must be fully extinguished and cooled before disposal.
