Winter Haven Police Department Press Release

A Call Regarding Possible Gunfire Results in Officers Fighting a Woman Who Escaped from a Patrol Car and Attempted to Grab Officers Weapons. She Now Faces a Host of Felony Charges.

On Monday, March 2, 2026 at approximately 3:28 a.m., Winter Haven officers responded to an apartment on Gowan Dr. for a call involving a possible shooting incident. Projectiles were located outside of the apartment building along with blood near a staircase. Officers located the male who made the 9-1-1 call who had injuries resulting from a cutting. He stated there was a violent encounter between him and his girlfriend while two young children were in their apartment. The children were not harmed and the man received medical attention at a local hospital where he was treated and released. The children were safely turned over to family members.

The resulting investigation took a violent turn towards officers as the investigation continued and the events were quickly unfolding.

As officers ensured the male victim received medical attention for his injuries, they secured the children safely with other members of the Police Department while detectives continued the investigation.

During this time, 29 year-old Unique Lashiah Isaac (DOB 10-16-96, of Gowan Dr., Winter Haven) approached one of the Winter Haven marked units, where the children were safely secured inside and attempted to get their attention. Isaac had blood on her clothing and it was quickly determined she was related to the children in the patrol car and part of the initial call. Due to the circumstances, she was detained while the investigation continued. It should be noted that Isaac resides in the apartment where the initial stabbing incident occurred.

Isaac was handcuffed and detained inside the back of a separate patrol car. After a short time, Isaac was seen running on foot through the apartment complex. Multiple verbal commands to stop were met with negative results. (Isaac had slipped out of the handcuffs and slid through the partition window and exited the patrol vehicle through the front passenger door.)

As Isaac ran, she stumbled and fell to the ground where officers were able to hold her on the ground. At this time, Isaac began reaching for an officer’s handgun and she would not remove her hand from the gun in an attempt to remove it from the holster. After numerous verbal commands to remove her hand from the weapon were ignored, officers attempted to gain control by providing strikes to Isaac’s head in order to disorient her. Isaac continued to attempt to remove the gun from the officer’s holster, so an agency-issued Taser was utilized in order to gain compliance.

A short time of compliance was gained, but when the effects wore off, Isaac again grabbed for the officer’s weapon. Another utilization of the Taser was given and officers were able to gain compliance and escorted Isaac back to the patrol vehicle. While attempting to double secure her hands and feet, Isaac continued to resist grabbing the restraints in an attempt to keep the officers from tightening them.  At this point, officers escorted Isaac to the ground where leg restraints were applied and she was once again placed in the back of the patrol vehicle. She was transported to the hospital to be medically cleared and then booked into the Polk County Jail.

The ensuing investigation concluded that Isaac and the male had a violent encounter inside of the apartment during a disturbance. Isaac had armed herself with a knife and cut the victim on the arm. The male left the apartment to distance himself from the disturbance. When he tried to return to the apartment to gather belongings and check on the children, Isaac met him in the apartment with a firearm pointed at her head. She fired shots just outside of the apartment before the victim was able to safely secure the weapon from Isaac while she fled the from the building just prior to law enforcement arrival.

“This was a very scary incident for our victim and the children,” said Police Chief Vance Monroe. “Our officers did everything they could to secure this woman, but her determination to flee and attempts to grab our officer’s weapon has racked up additional charges that should keep her locked away for a while,”

Isaac was charged with one count of Domestic Battery with a Deadly Weapon (F2), Escape (F2), two counts of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (F3), two counts of Resisting Arrest With Violence (F3), Domestic Violence/Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill (F3) and four counts of Resisting Arrest without Violence (M1).
