An important message from Joe G. Tedder, Tax Collector for Polk County:

Big changes are coming to Learner’s Licenses in Florida. Please take a moment to read this. Kids who are seeking a learner’s license, and their parents, are affected!

Effective July 1st, 2025, for a learner’s license to be issued, the person will need to complete a Driver Education Course, in addition to the Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Course, and the General Knowledge Exam.

Note: Those who are 14 ½ years old and have completed the Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Course (TLSAE) prior to July 1st, 2025, will be exempt from completing the Driver Education Course, if the General Knowledge Exam is completed within one year.

Background: State Lawmakers enacted, and the Governor recently approved, new requirements to obtain a Florida learner’s license. The new law takes effect July 1st, 2025.
