Deputy Giroux was conducting traffic enforcement on Friday, August 29th, in the area of US 27 and Peace Creek Road near Waverly.

At around 11:05 pm, Giroux noticed a black Kia Forte traveling toward his location at a high rate of speed.

A check with radar showed that the vehicle was moving 112 mph, in a 60 mph zone (52 mph over).

Additionally, the vehicle was changing lanes and cutting through the traffic.

A traffic stop was performed, and the driver was identified as 19-year old James Ellis Seawright, III of Fort Myers.

Seawright apparently didn’t see right when it came to his speedometer, because he said he thought he was “only doing 101 mph.”

Seawright was Arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and taken to the Polk County Jail.

He was charged with Dangerous Excessive Speeding.
