The PCSO Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit is investigating a two‑vehicle crash resulting in the death of a motorcyclist. The crash occurred on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at approximately 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy 17 and Ave O SW in Winter Haven.
Evidence and witness statements show that a 2013 Mercedes was traveling southbound on Hwy 17, approaching the intersection with Ave O SW. At the same time, a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by 47‑year‑old Shena Carty, was northbound on Hwy 17. The Mercedes attempted to turn onto Avenue O SW and entered the path of the motorcycle. Carty was fully ejected.
Carty was not wearing a helmet. When first responders arrived, she was unresponsive and had significant injuries. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased shortly after. The driver of the Mercedes was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to a local hospital with minor, non‑life‑threatening injuries.
Next of kin has been notified. The investigation remains ongoing.
